The Pre-Inaugural Lecture
The Pre-Inaugural Lecture of the OOGGDRC was titled “Fighting Corruption in Nigeria: the Journey to Date” was delivered by Prof. ‘Femi Odekunle. The renowned criminology scholar examined corruption before the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, current efforts being made to tackle the menace and the relative successes recorded thus far, as well as what must be done to ensure that the war against corruption was won. In his extensive coverage of the topic, Prof. Odekunle did not spare any segment of the Nigerian society in terms of their contribution to the festering menace. He was, however, more critical of the conventional legalistic approach in tackling corruption, pointing out that environmental and psychosocial variables should be factored in as well.
The lecture was well received and repeatedly punctuated by applauds from the audience.
